Lights and Bulbs

Finally got round to fitting my Philips Extreme bulbs.
Driver's side is whatever was fitted in Japan, Passenger's side is the Philips bulb. On the road it's not a huge difference, but definitely better.
I also had a play with reversing lights, since I wasn't happy with the standard 21W ones, and even less happy with the LED ones I bought. As an aside, the LED ones give out very little IR light, so don't help the reversing camera at night at all.
Passenger's side is a normal 21W fillament bulb. Driver's side is a modified standard bulb base with a 55W halogen bulb soldered in (Ok, bodged!

).
Much brighter, and gives out enough IR to keep the camera happy.
Right, back to cutting up plywood....

It might well fail the MOT with a 55W bulb in

- maximum allowed is 21W for road use.

Possibly, but I'd be swapping them back (if I remember) for the MOT...

I didn't think the reversing lights were part of the MOT .......

My kitcar never had any. They are most likely in the category "if you have them, they must work", and be <21W as well.

Reverse light isn't part of the mot, you might get pulled for it though, just don't reverse into any police cars

Noticed one of the lights on the dashboard switched was out. Pulled switch out, removed bulb from plastic base, put in new bulb and wound the "tails" around the base - sorted.
In case you are wondering, they are very small bulbs (3mm x 6mm) and you can get them from Maplin for around £1
Product code BT43

Just an update. Fitted two new mini-bulbs which fixed on switch, but not the other. After loads of diagnostics, discovered that the earth wire from the switch was not connected !!
The same was true for the rear fog light - i.e. the fogs work, but the little warning lights on the switch don't illuminate unless the earth wire is connected.
Worth checking if you have trouble.
