Blanking the EGR valve

I've read several threads on the EGR blanking.
Do you need to blank both ends? and why?

When I was into Land Rovers, we only blanked one end with no issues - the other end was welded !

So you blanked the other end by welding it?
I don't think it's imperative you blank both ends, the russians use a 2 rouble coin, but someone tried a simimlar trick with a different coin in the uk which ended up with the engine being stripped to pull all the bits of coin out as I remember #-o
I removed mine entirely, a forum member Nick Skidmore was making up stainless plugs to blank off the turbo outlet along with blanking plates (think he stopped doing them a while ago). I think some have done similar by welding up the outlet pipe from the turbo & removing the rest of the gubbins.

Do you need to blank both ends? and why?
If you're blanking to stop the EGR working, you just blank 1 end.

If you want to problems from a split pipe (they are known to split on the weld), blank both ends.

Blanking both ends at once saves having to do it later.

Probably another dumb question;-

Why would you want to prevent EGR from working?

Wouldn't you want to fix if it's broken?
