Hi

Thought that might work

I have searched the site but can't seem to find the right answer.

Have replaced wheels with new alloys, now want to put locking nuts on them to keep the thieves at bay. I was told sizes are 12 x 1.5. so off I went to halfords expecting to walk in, grab my nuts  head off home and have a play.

Oh No :? not as easy as that, is it.

so many choices and no halfords employee with a clue.

Anybody know the answer? or is it a complicated one, depending on what the wheels are?

2 nights now, still with my new wheels and wanting to keep them. hope someone can help.

Have you tried the place where you got the wheels, or a specialist that sells wheels? There are several types available, but at a guess I'd say you need the 60 degree taper, but your wheels may be of a different spec from genuine Mazda wheels.

Word of caution: don't do the locking nuts up too tight & if possible, get a second 'key' with them. Having watched a team of mechanics struggle for 2 hours to remove 3 locking bolts from my previous V70, I am now very wary of locking nuts / bolts. Many people are replacing them for conventional nut / bolts. After all, when was the last time you saw a car sat on a pile of bricks in your area? Thieves would rather take the whole vehicle than mess around at the side of the road.

:D Hi chap,

What do ya mean thieves (In the west mids surely not! ), on a serious note try "Rochford wheels" can't remeber where they are based but they are the tintanet, they seem to be suppliers of 100's of alloys and sell locking wheel nuts also, not sure excatly where you are in west mids but there are several wheel suppliers in our area, you could try A1 Wheels, they are on the Bilston road.

Promise i won't take your wheels !!!!!!!! =P~

McGard locking nuts - they were the ones that took 2 hours for the garage to remove. Secure? - maybe, but a nightmare when the star-shaped key wears out or you loose it.
