hi guys just got my bongo 2.5td auto full time 4wd,

just quick bit of advice,

put £30 worth of diesel in at £1.14 a litre , which is 26 ish litres which is 5.79 galons

so i covered 113 miles on a fairly flat sual carriageway few small hills,

so i work this out at 19 mpg there abouts,

just wondered if this sounded about right or if there was anythings i could check or change to get a bit more mpg as this seems low to what i have seen others getting,

Hi and welcome aboard.
Unless you brim the tank, run it and clock the mileage, brim it again and see exactly how much you've used to the milage recorded, you wont get an accurate mpg. 19mpg seems a little low for that kind of journey, but other factors might play a part in mpg - roof bars, bull bars, how heavy your right foot is, etc.

How do you know how much of what you put in you used?
The only way to get a halfway reliable consumption figure is to fill it to the brim, zero the trip meter, get a few hundred miles in, then fill up, take note of this amount against the mileage covered & that will get you somewhere close. There's a handy little mpg calculator in the databases section of the members area.
It all depends on how heavy your right foot is, the length of journeys, how much weight you're carrying, tyre pressures, how well maintained your vehicle is etc.
Short journeys, 20 mpg isn't ridiculous, best you can hope for on long journeys is probably about 35mpg, but don't be surprised if you don't get above 30mpg even on long runs. Loads of discussions in "fuel & performance" section of the forum.

was last week beforr the kind people put it up,

no bull bars , roof rack, tyres at correct psi, and was just poodling along , not thrashing it,

wondered whether a oil diesel and air filter may be worth a try with an oil change

Out of interest what pressure's are you running the tyres? If you're going by the sticker on the door frsme, chances are it's too low as this is for softer compound Jap tyres from 15 yrs ago). Most seem to be running about 38 -40psi (obviously check the max rated pressure on the tyres) but a bit of trial & error should get it right.

I get around 20 when spanking to work & back. A 15 min each way hilly run with a fair few drag starts away from traffic lights.

Get out on a run up to Scotland, dragging a trailer at 65ish it hits the mid 30s.

The health of the wallet is directly related to the weight of the right foot 90% of the time in my case.

will give a full tank and do a more accurate reading,

my pressures are at 40psi reccomended bylocal garage


tax disc indicates a possibilty of the car being sat up for 8 months so was guna do service anyway

and as for throttling it i can honestly say i dnt

got a clio sprot for that

also dont carry any weight ie towing or internal and only have one seat unit in back so less weight again
