mechanic needed in tyne and wear

Post by tomheaney99 » Wed Apr 07, 2010 7:49 pm

Hey, I live in south shields and my bongo keeps stalling. Been advised to take it to a diesel specialist - no idea where one is! and also there's no recommended garage on the execel sheet. Can any recommend one? I'm gettin real down about it stalling on roundabouts etc :'(

Worth searching on here for possible causes as we've had a few Bongos do that. Fuel filter, banjo filter, blocked fuel line (need to blow back along it and hope to clear it) and blocked filler cap breather have been past causes. Try the last one first (leave the cap off or lossen it and do a test drive, but not with a full tank,to avoid spillage) as its the easiest to eliminate.

thanks for the replies.
it's a horrid feeling driving with the uncertaintity : is it going to stall again...!!!

tried new filter
mechanic checked pipes
talked to a great knowledgable mechnaic on phone tonight and he seems to think it could be air getting in so going to get that checked out over next few days. Seems to stall more when engine is warm.

Going to try a diesel specialist tomorrow to ask thier opinion too.

:) so far i'm wishing i'd never become a bongo owner :( sad because i was really looking forwrad to being an owner!

Check for seepage at the back of thye fuel pump (not easily seen but can be felt)

If it is wet with derv then replace the O rings. There are varous threads on here about replacong the o ring seals. You can buy them fron any derv specialist...same seals as for ford ranger fuel pump.

Sounds exactly the same prob as I had on mine.

good luck

The same or similar thing was happening to my brothers bongo, would stall at lights and junctions.
turned out it needed a new fuel pump. luckily for my brother it was under warranty and job was done. its not a cheap job i am afraid.
Lost without my Bongo.

Indeed - I had him down as the smartest contributor on here at the time. Great loss. I remember him saying though that he got bored and only kept cars for 6 months before changing them. I had hoped that he would meet his match in the beautiful Bongo and maybe settle down, get married, have little Bongos, and become a lay Bongo preacher.

But it was not to be

(thinks) I ought to PM him and see if he replies :P
