Starter motor only clicking

Post by lekistyx » Sun Apr 11, 2010 4:55 pm

Hi , need help I'm not at all mechanically minded so if this doesn't make too much sense I appologise in advance. Despite turning the motor over every few weeks through the winter the engine refused to start last friday just as we were about to set off to Norfolk a 300 miles plus round trip . We jump started it and had no further problems, we were on a hook up all the time on site , tried it this morning and the same again ,the starter motor just clicked, so i plugged it in to the mains for 7-8 hours and nothing changed. I think it was a new battery last november when we bought the bongo from JAL , I think all the switches were in the off position and my leisure battery is fine, so my questions are - 1, does an E/up charge both batteries, 2, is my battery shot .3, what position should the switches for fridge, lights, etc be in when parked up . 4 , is there anything I may have missed.

Could be starter motor contacts or a low battery.
Need to know what control panel you have before answering about battery charging - ideally a photo 8)

Sounds like a problem I had - it turned out to be the starter motor in the end. It was intermittent whether it would start or not. Had some embarrassing moments in Cornwall!

I had what sounds like the same noise when my alternator packed up. Might be worth checking that the batteries are charging next time you get it started.
