Bongo Fury

Hi guys need your help again, heres the deal took bongo out and about for the day up hills down dales ect ect found ive developed a wobble tranfered through to my steering wheel only when braking espesially when braking from speed say from 60mh to an island or so on, the wobble is very bad can feel it shake the whole van like i was going over rumble strips, new pads about 3months ago new discs brand new wheels well 6 months old now, wheels all ballanced up ok just gone through mot so any clues guys? many thanks barrington

Check the wheel nuts are tight.
Could be something has snapped or broken in the front axle/steering.
Sticky brakes, not working properly.
Need a jack and have a good look.

Cheers 1st thing i done was checked all the nuts, then got home jacked up van been pulling and prying this and that dammed if i can find anything wrong so at stand still as to what to look for

That's classic symptoms of warped discs - can you feel it through the brake pedal?

Yes through the feet but not as much as through the sterring wheel! any way of checking they are warped as they are new?

i would also suspect the discs,or if they are alloys check the wheel/disc face is clean/flat.
i once watched as an ats man who was putting my wheel on bent it,he didnt square it up right then banged it up with an air gun!!!
take the wheels for rebalance,or swap with rears teporarily.

i would also remove the front discs and clean up the face behind it may be sat wonky.

No easy way that I know of, as they don't have to be very warped to cause the wobble. If you jack a wheel up and spin it, you may be able to see any warping if you can hold a suitable length stick between any fixed part of the car and the disc. If you can get the gap small enough, it's amazing how small a difference can actually be spotted.

I read on another thread here about replacement wheels having the centre hole too big by a small amount. He had some thin sleeve rings made to line the wheels up. Try measuring the hole that slips over the hub & check it isn't bigger than the hub by more than a few thou.

Just a thought it may be somthing or nothing when i changed my discs to new i left the old pads on only beacause they had only been on for 3 months from new and looked good as expected but could it be these causing the wobble? as they may be bedded into the old discs shape or am i thinking rubbish!!!! many thanks barrington,

A dingned rim may cause the same too Barry. Happened to my MX6 - (while someone else was driving it obviously, likely female, probably one that lives with me but can't mention names . . . . ) had a flat spot knocked into the rim on the front passenger side, probably by an over exertive kerbing manoeuvre.

Hard to spot unless you run your fingers round the inside & outside of each wheel real carefully but gave the same symptoms you describe.
