Hi folks.
I need to top up my coolant... it's only just above minimum.
I plan to have a full bleed before a big trip in summer... so aren't looking to do this right now.
Can I just top up with something like:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... PLPZ1#dtab ?
or do I need to do something and buy something fancy?
Thanks

I would check the label or specification.....if it doesn't say G12+ ...... NO....don't put any in your system
To be sure.... Car Plan Premium Red is the best bet.... especially of you don't know what is in the system....
Personally if it just a top up and your going to change shortly.....I would add some good old water

The "G" type is a designation of coolant started by VW group.... now rule of thumb.... G11, G12 & G12+ are the main things to look for..... Bongo's have in the main, on import a G12 alike coolant.... BUT you can't always use that as a guide.
G11 is usually Blue or Green in the UK and G12 is orange or red in the main and G12+ is Red or purple - this is why you never go on the colour of coolant......
G11 is okay on its own, as is G12...... mix them and you get sludge and gelling of the coolant and big problems...... G12+ WILL mix with the other 2 but the long life properties are cancelled out but it is a good get out of jail card should you need coolant in an emergency.....
Hence why I said G12+ if you mix it..... not G12....

..... you will probably be fine with plain water

I knew it would get complicated!
A touch of water will do for now as having 13litres worth, the discrepancy between 'min' and 'max' on the tank isn't a great deal.
A full bleed by a pro in summer
Cheers.

I last used Halfords Advanced ready mixed and I've looked all over the labels and cant find any reference to any G. Should it be there?
