Trackers
I'm considering putting a tracker on my much loved Bongo and was looking for any info on trackers out there
Do all trackers require subscriptions
Any info would be helpful.

Just a big bag of Winalot & a couple of shrimps on the barbie & peace of mind is retained.

Keep an old mobile phone in the van, switched on and connected to power so it stays charged.
When the van is stolen ask the police to locate the phone. Tell them an unfed baby is in the van if they say they can't get the Telco to do it.

While I was there 2 Boys in Blue purchased too..... got chatting with them about the devices and they are obviously used to finding cars with them fitted & they reckoned this one is the best they have seen/worked with...... nuff said...
Oh and you wont see what they look like on the website.....

Sounds like a solution, and no subscription.Diplomat wrote:Keep an old mobile phone in the van, switched on and connected to power so it stays charged.

Re: Trackers
RBS Group were doing a special offer for employees plus family and friends. One off (well discounted) fee and lifetime subscription.
Since the Group includes the likes of Natwest, Churchill and Direct Line Ins, it may be worth finding a mate who works for them and check out the deal.

Cheers Bob, all I need now is a friend in that field of work

Re: Trackers
Seriously, after you've checked all the companies in teh RBS Group, it could be worth trying the Stuff Wanted section.
Ask if anyone is with RBS.

Re: Trackers
I have a TrakM8 Explorer that I got when we upgraded the company's vehicles tracking (all done via 3g and mobile phones now), The TrakM8's are great units, I'm going bury it in the conversion and run the 'puck' aerial up to the AFT epoxy resin it in place and spray it white so it's nicely hidden away (but for now its just rammed in there).
No subscription as it runs on a pay as u go sim card, and gives you its lat & lon via text if you call it, you can also live track it with software and set up areas that text you should you leave, Every time it leaves my house it texts me to tell me, can be annoying but still a good idea

you can also set up triggers so if you text it a certain message it could immobilise the van, operate the ejector seat or just stab the thieving scum bag git in the face, oh maybe that's a bit strong
Definitely worth having i think

Re: Trackers
Hi csmc.queen
Are those TrackM8 units available to the public?...seems more like a fleet thing?
Also, be aware that many thieves that nick the high-end stuff use equipment that blocks any signal from the car...this came upon a thread quite a while back...hopefully the average Bongo heister does not carry such stuff, as they aren't expensive enough vehicles!....
Probably one of the best deterrents is a device that fills the car with smoke in the event of unauthorised access....
Oh...I don't think stabbing the thieving gits in the face is cruel enough.....a device releasing angry Africanised Honey bees (killer Bees), is far more to my taste, and video recording to watch the blighter writhe....that'd teach 'em to "mess wid de Bongo"
Cheers

Re: Trackers
I'm not sure if they are available to the public, I do know they are made by Maxon. I have found similar things on ebay LINKY or LINKY that could do the same job. It's a shame they threw about about 10 of them in the skip before i got to themhelen&tony wrote:Hi csmc.queen

I have seen a few of these GPS blockers and unfortunately if there's a will there's a way, the reason for mounting my aerial inside the back of the aft is to keep it as far from the front ciggy lighter as possible as that's where a lot of these things plug in and hopefully being outside the 'tin' and inside the aft it might block the signal from one of these transmitters enough to get a signal out (maybe)
I still think(hope) the average opportunist wont carry one of the blockers and I might get the van back

Re: Trackers
Hi S
Yes...that's what I think regarding bongo thefts...you're probably all O.K. with a tracker, as the thieving scrotes are the petty thieves rather than high-end merchants
Thanks for those links....I'll look seriously at the UK one...I would take a bash at the Chinese one, but the import duty here is likely to be colossal....
Cheers
