Hi all,
For all of you that were involved in my gearbox episode, I would like to thank you all for your information and guidence regarding the issues and courses of action suggested that I should take. Yes you were correct, I managed to get the filter changed worked for a while then gave up the ghost. So finnaly got the auto gearbox centre in Poole to look at it and by golly it needed a recon!!!!! . It's now having major surgery and should be ready by the weekend. Long and short of it was that the garage wanted to change the gearbox which is understandable, ship one in from Japan. where this would have been covered totally under the warrenty. However me being me preffered the idea of the original box being re-built...So the garage are paying a large chunk of the money and i put the rest in.
I was going to go to Dunnings but felt happier with the Bong being closer @ poole.I should have it back friday [-o< [-o< if not then monday i thought it would take weeks to do but looks like only 3 days. I am begining to see the light .

I just want to bongo!!!!

I wouldn't expect it to take more than 5 - 7 working days, depending on the workload. Some smaller companies have one man who might remove it, build it & then refit it which will of course be quicker than someone like me who has fitters & rebuilders. So in my case the fitter may get the trans out but it may have to wait then for a re-builder to come free (we do a lot of loose units taken out by garages & collected on our van). Most transmissions today can take a day & a half to build - some more!

There is nothing special or difficult about the Bongo R4A-EL unit, & parts are obtainable overnight. Anyone who says anything else is a buls###ter!

Hi all,
Well just done the same trip to Essex and the rear wheels are locking up again, doing the same as it done before!!!!
this has had a recon gear box at an expense of £1600. It drove like a dream all the here but when we started driving of motorway on to the street roads at a slower speed it started again.recon box included torque converter, clutch lates and all the restr that is normally done.

The work must surely be warrantied. They can't take £1600 off you and not fix it. Imagine if every professional did that. Bummer though

Allans, Bellhill, Bongobits, I think there's a guy in southampton that breaks bongo's, always bongos being broken on ebay, partfinder etc online or see if any of the guys on here breaking their bongos have got a diff.
I think Allan in Plymouth is sorted out a refurb exchange diff for someone, came up on a thread last week I think if you have a search.

Hi again,

not the diff undone the oil plug let a bit out and clear as a bell no metallic to be seen, pull away in 2nd then put in drive all ok and when coming to a stop changing down in to 2nd seems to be OK so hopefully this will get us home again, I now have a twelve month warranty on the box and the guys in Poole are really great.I will be very surprised if it is the box i feel now that it is something to do with the selector and that the wheels lock up because it is selecting 1st gear when it shouldn't. would love to hear your ideas....
