MOT miles not kilometres

Two MOT test stations are insisting that my odometer readings is put down as MILES. (The distance covered is kilometres on both TOTAL and TRIP)
However testers are insisting because the FACEPLATE says MPH in the bottom right hand corner the distances covered must be in MILES.
60000k becomes 60000 miles = 96000k
Has anyone else had this nonsense from testers?

Is yours just a replacement face or has it been chipped?
If its been chipped the odometer will be now running in miles so to add confusion into the mix, your vehicle has done Km up until chip fitted + Miles since
If it has just had a faceplate change then it will still be in Km so easy to convert.

I think the tester is correct. He has to record what is on the face of speedo. If you think about it many people just drop their cars off for an MOT then come back for them later. In that situation what is he supposed to do plus you could get all the wide boyz telling the MOT station that their odo's are in km's to get a lower mileage reading.
It's about the only reason I can think of to fit one of those damn speedo converting chips that are the bane of my life! My Bongo is in KM's with a replacement face & it doesn't worry me what the MOT states - if you are selling the vehicle it is easy to prove that it is recording km's.

When I got my Bongo, the importer had added a speedo overlay to indicate mph - and a sticker stating ODO = Kilometers, along with their website address. (Either free advertising, or a way of validating the sticker, or both!)
It would not be too tricky to pop the speedo out, and add a sticker under the odo and trip readouts stating Km. What would the MOT man make of that?

Hi,
I think you will find that the tester could only enter Miles,as the MOT software does not use or recognise Kilometers.

I had this problem briefly when i needed an 'emergency' MOT (it had run out and I was away from home).
The garage gave me the MOT with miles instead of kilometres but the odo reading was the same. Garage refused to change it and said that they had to do it in miles despite previous MOTs being in km.
When I got home a few weeks later I queried it with my usual garage.
Rubbish was the polite version of their reply.
However there is a time and cost implication if the issuing garage wishes to change an MOT retrospectively once it has been issued even if it was their mistake. The garage was just being awkward.
My regular garage issued the MOT in Km the following year without question.

Had mine mot'd and the tester put it in miles not kilometers, I rang the ministry peoplke and they said it was easy to correct, which the garage did, since then the mot shows kilometers and not miles, if you tester says it be put down in miles he is wrong, tell him politely to check the regulations or phone the ministry.

I am no expert, but certainly no problem putting KM on on MOT. However all mine have had a speedo face which does have km and miles on it.......may well be an issue if only MPH......HOWEVER if only MPH then this should be due to a 'chip' which as previously stated, would be also converting the trip reading to Miles.

Mine reads km as well, at MOT last year I pointed this out and tester put reading in km on MOT form. Forgot to mention it this year and it has gone back to miles on the form.
