Bongo Fury

Hi,

Yesterday took bongy to the sea side. First time out with my own filtered used vegy oil.
Noticed it was a wee bit down on power and assumed that that was because of the "new" fuel. However, after I filled it up with diesel no improvement. Revs fine to 2200 then seems to wallow and just wont go. Is it possiblythe turbo. No nasty noises, no excessive smoke, On the way back somthing just "clicked" and all was fine for about twenty miles and then it went into slow mode again, any ideas?

Just an idea here but...
Look under the driver's seat towards the front end there is a small pipe...about 6mm....goes from a small nozzle on the inlet manifold near the egr pipe to the top of the fuel pump.

Mine was initially missing. Then got knocked loose after some work. I had exactly the same symptoms. Basically your turbo is working away but the fuel pump isn't supplying the extra fuel needed.

It fits on here. The circled part is at the front of the engine under the driver's seat just under the central cover.

Of course I may be totally wrong, but as it's happened to me twice now....

Had the WVO been allowed to settle for long enough for the water & crap to settle out? how finely filtered is it? I'd check the fuel filter.

Within 10minutes of starting to find the problem I located a loose 6mm rubber pipe and a nozzel - reattached the same and then went for a test run. 100% improvement but still not as it was last week. Will now rev to 2800 and puls bettwe then itstarts to falter. I think there might be another pipe adrift. My job for tomorrow.

Look towards the top middle of your engine under the driver's seat. There are a collection of pipes going to two sensors. I had one of those off too. Be careful as they can be brittle.

solved the problem and I post this to assist anyone who has similar problems.
In addition to the vacume pipe becoming dislodged I found that when I filled the bongo up with my first batch of filtered WVO I "brimmed" it. When Fuel cap screwed in, the WVO apparenty blocked the one way valve in the cap.

As I was putting some diesel in I heard the whistle of ingoing air and thought that may be the problem I sucked through the filter (Doesent fuel taste vile) It was blocked. Set off after refueling and found that for the first time in 8 days it would again rev to 4000.
