Non Starter

I have an intermittent problem with starting.

Turn the key and ........ Nothing.......... Acts like a flatter than flat battery.

Try again, and again and again....

Starts perfectly!

A couple of weeks later ..... Happens again.

I am sure it isnt the battery as it sometimes happens after a short journey.

Any ideas???

Starter motor contacts, easy job can be done in under an hour, factsheet in members area, there's a video too, kits available (get the one with the plunger) on ebay for less than £20. A search on "starter and contacts" will reveal a wealth of results

Thankyou. Excellent advice, as ever. I will be getting this sorted before the big summer escape.

Best wishes

Just a quick safety check. I read sometime back that parts in the refurbishment kits were not the right ones for the higher power start starter motors fitted to the twin battery 'winter pack' models. Maybe our techies can confirm the situation regarding that?

Spot on Mike, if you've got the winterpack & twin batteries it should have a bigger starter which can't be refurbed, certainly not with the kit on ebay, but the smaller starter fits ok as a replacement, you don't have to hunt down a bigger starter.

I havent had a look at the starter yet, but my Bongo doesn't even have a leisure battery tray fitted, can I assume it is a standard starter?

Almost certainly (i.e. except in the unlikely event someone has removed the 2nd battery and tray) you can assume yours is NOT the winter pack version. Others clues if it was would be a mysterious engine heat switch on the dash and some paraphernalia on the exhaust (first section I think but not sure as mine inst a winter pack Bongo) that is the exhaust recirc. stuff used in extreme cold starting).

Management accepts no liability for advice given etc.
