Bongo Fury

Has anybody fitted a courtesy light delay on the bongo, i think its called theatre lights, it leaves the interior cab light on for a few seconds when you get in after closing the door.
If you have where did you get the unit and was it easy to fit.
I remember years ago you could get a small unit that fitted on the pin switch and that delayed the lights.

I remember those, I tried google just now and couldn't find anything. It used to be a little pcb kit etc?

I have just bought a fiesta relay to fit in, you have to watch out as some of them there pin switches just dont work at all!

In the end I opted for one from a ford fiesta, just need to get round to fitting it, you can pick up all the wires from drivers foot well, The good thing about the fiesta one is the ign+ wire that turns the light off when you turn the ignition on

Can these be made to work with LEDs, fluorescent tubes etc? I have a distant alarm bell going off about that but I'm not sure

I don't see why not as these are time based and not based on current drawn

Ah! It was Dave calling them 'theatre lights', and my memory of theatre lights being lights that faded (also seeing lights in posh cars that did that), that set the alarm bells off. Am I right in saying that LEDs, fluorescent tubes etc. won't work with dimmers? I think that is what I was trying to ascertain.

Yes in general that's right, its not that they can't be dimmed but simply increasing the resistance / reducing the current won't work for most modern lighting systems as it does with filament bulbs.

I recall someone doing it a while back, can't remember who, have a play with searches & it should come up.

I fitted one a few years ago - I'm sure I got it from Ebay following a tip from on here. It solders easily into the wiring in the courtesy light itself and there is a tiny dial to alter the time the light stays on after the door has shut, then fades slowly.

It does mean that the door sign and lights on beeper stay on for the lenght the light takes to fade if you open then shut the door with the lights on - but it is a useful mod.

Seach under interior - light - delay and you will find the post from 2007 - there was a guy selling them on ebay for a fiver

Cheers Dunc, we were after the type that fades the light out as it goes off (it's called theatre lights dimming in my Ford manual) We reckon we've located the gizmo for the job...

If you get the theatre lights to work with LED's let me know, I thought you had to use standard filament bulbs with these?
