Another Oil Question and a very hot interior.

Many modern diesel engines come with the warning that the oil should be checked when engine is warm, ie. 5 mins after stopping engine. Does this apply to a 1995 engine or should it be dipped cold ??
Secondly our Bongo spends a lot of time in Portugal where I have found air in vehicle has been up to 37C and it is not even summer yet. I am thinking of fitting a small caravan pop up skylight in the lifting roof which I could leave open so in theory the hot air would escape to the outside. Of course I would have to leave the trap door open. Anybody got a better idea or thoughts on this would be much appreciated
