Bongo Fury

A couple of issues that you will be able to help with I'm sure!
1) auto gear box on 2l petrol 2000 model. Should it be erratic, reaching as much as 3500 revs before shifting up?
2) bought an awning that clips onto gutter, but had manual lift roof fitted, and no gutter anymore! Can it still be fitted elsewhere or not?

Welcome aboard Wakeybongo. Re gearbox, does it only do this when cold? Are you 'Booting' it, it could be kickdown/hold in lower gear.

Awning, possibly use some of those giant suckers used for holdng panes of glass/pulling dents out of bodywork.

you can get figure of 8 clips that will normally slide on the the gutter and also on to the awning, you can also get a J shaped arrangemnt to fit to the van to hold the figure of 8 clip in place of the gutter, check this link out.

No it happened well into journey,I was booting it a bit, wondering how many revs was it going to take, then I think I must have deaccelerated as just as the gear shifted up and then reaccelerated all within a second or so!! frightened the life out of the trouble n strife!!!
Could just be me, getting used to an auto box?!?!

How much experience do you have of driving with an auto-box and just how erratic is it?

If you're unfamiliar with auto-boxes, then you may not be aware that the up-shift point is dependant on engine load and throttle position - e.g. going up hill and/or carrying a lot of weight, with the throttle well open, the 'box will change up at fairly high revs, whereas on the flat with a light right foot, gear changes should take place at relatively low revs.

None!!!
There was a bit of an incline, nothing I'd class as even a hill though, going from about 30 up to 45/50 and it was hitting close on 4000 rpm before it shifted up.

Were you holding your foot on the floor trying to get it to go faster? usually backing off a tad on the throttle works wonders, allows it to change up, it does take a bit of getting used to.
Have you checked gearbox oil level? engine warm & running, brakes on, range through the gears & into P (some say D, very little difference, can be easier to see the level in D, less turbulence), dipstick under the drivers seat angling to the rear.
Check the colour & condition, should beo red/orange (DIII ATF) if it smells like burnt toast or is going black, you may have issues. only picked it up on Monday, new import from reputable supplier so would expect it to be all sorted. Been to work and back today and no problems, so probably just my legs (sorry leg!!!) getting used to an auto.

I found out 2l petrol runs best if you keep the revs quite low (2500 to 3000)
and let it get up to speed on it' own, within reason. I tend to drive with one eye on the rev counter and one on the speedo all the time (and one on the road of course )
