What happens if your glow plugs fail?

You have a lot of difficulty starting with a cold engine, When it does start it's lumpy and lots of white smoke (unburnt fuel) from the exhaust.

You also have to buy new ones.

Well mine has no difficulty starting from cold but it is quite lumpy for a few seconds with some smoke. Could this be glow plugs and is it damaging the engine?

Probably just one of them failed. There's a fact sheet on replacing them in the Member's Area

Fit NGK ones as replacements, they are not expensive (around £30.00ish a set from a factors). I fitted cheaper Bluepoint ones & they lasted less than 6 months before being worse than before. A set of NGK's has her sorted again. The Bluepoint one's went back under warranty but I won't be holding my breath . . .
