Bongo Fury

Can anyone help me understand if it is ok for my local tyre company shoudl fit the following tyres to my v6 mazda bongo ? I have read the factsheets but am still not clearer as to whether the ones they want to fit are ok.

Spec of tyres to be replaced: 215/70R/15
Only 2 of these are available and we want to replace all 4.

They are suggesting replacing with Kumho make, 205/70/R15 ;s

Is this ok? The factsheet seems to suggest that if you have all 4 the same then they must 215? Or otherwise 215 rear and 195 front? But in the factsheet they mention aspect ratio 65 not 70 so I am totally confused.

Can anyone help?

Is that if we are to replace all 4 the same? Do you have a diesel or v6? Why did we have the 70 ratio tyre?

The important number is the one you have left out

The correct size for use "all round" is 215/65-15 but then there is another number and a letter - the number should be AT LEAST 96 for use on front and rear and I think the letter needs to be at least "S"

Some had different sized tyres (aspect 70 instead of 65) - later ones I think There's a plate inside the passenger door frame giving the various sizes for your vehicle
As most vehicle speedos under-read anyway, fitting 205/70x15 tyres will make it under-read by a further 2% I'd find somewhere with the correct tyres for your car and fit the 215/70x15 all round. As scanner says, make sure they have a load rating of at least 96.

Thanks guys. Its been pretty hard to understand. I have asked the tyre man to do me the 215 65 r 15 good year ones with the load rating of 96. Hopefully this will be ok. The 70's we were told would be waiting a long time for them. These were the website's recommendation so I think we will stick with that. Shame though, as I did want to replace like with like. Hope it doesn't cause us any problems.

Make sure he has understood your requirement for 96 load rated tyres. When I was pricing up tyres, a few of the big names either ignored the requirement, or thought I was on about the speed rating instead of the load rating. The speed rating is a letter. P rated tyres are rated to 95mph (10 minutes without falling apart). When I was asking for 96 or greater load index, a couple of places stated "Yes, these are higher than 96, they are H rated..." (H is 130mph)

To add a bit of confusion, as you get into tyres with a high load index the greater strength of construction usually means that they end up with a high speed rating as well, so the 2 specifications sort of go hand-in-hand. My P7 XL's are 98 load and W speed rated (168mph). For some reason, I'm struggling to get it to stay at 168mph for 10 minutes to test the tyres are up to spec...

Try a new fuel filter - yours may be partially blocked

Nope, a full tank is empty after 8 minutes at that speed.

Makes it sound like a Bugatti Veyron!! Dave, maybe you need to find a straighter bit of road.

In contradiction to the high load rating/high speed thing - mine are S rated (112 mph) with a load rating of 107. They are Toyo H08 and are 215 70 R15 and I've had them for about 700 miles now and am very happy indeed

That is because yours are 15" & higher profile (70) - if you go to 16" and 65 profile you only get a 99 load rating with a V speed rating.

Ahhh... Interesting. Mine are 215/55/17/98/W
