This isn’t what I was going to do today, I did have an alternative which will have to wait - This was inspired by the recent Hill of Oaks extravaganza on the shore of Windermere, expertly organised by Di & Jamie. I could have done something on the spot which wouldn’t have disappointed BongoPlod nearly so much as the Lorne sausages & eggs I was rustling up for breakfast....

....in fact, had Muzette been a little sharper she could have secured the primary ingredient to do it “live” (or dead) so to speak

Anyway, duck with red cabbage & mashed spuds. Ok, Smash, but hey, it’s a Bongo lunch and I haven’t got all day

Don’t be confused with the ghastly red cabbage you would have been traumatised at school with as a kid, this is proper German red cabbage and quite delicious

Empty some into a cazuela with a knob of butter

Seal a couple of duck breasts in butter – I’m hoping these aren’t both from the same duck otherwise it must have lived near Sellafield

Then turn the heat down and keep them going for 30 minutes or so

Get ready to deploy the Smash....

....and tuck in – This really is brilliant, you should give it a go, you’d be quackers not to
