Suitable Manifold Stud

Post by Blueskai » Sun May 16, 2010 9:02 pm

Mine is long overdue a fix. It was done last year, but the noise came back during a long hot run in France.

I wonder if there is a suitable bolt that can be used that withstands higher temeratures than a standard bolt, or if that makes no difference

Possibly a weeping gasket or slightly warped manifold, I don't believe the studs themselves to be a weak point but am happy to be proved wrong.

I replaced No1 stud last year then had to do it again a few months later as the manifold itself went wibbly - possibly weakened by the first failure. Was replaced with a second hand one from Bongobits (didn't get it skimmed though #-o ) but now I'm getting the early symptoms again. i.e. a bit of a shrill chirping under load from cold - so thinking mine might need another look soon.

I have found a bongo friendly garage that will take off the manifold, skim it and replace all the studs for £130. I think that is maybe a good idea.

Sounds like a good deal assuming that includes a new gasket, not worth the risk of trying to get away with a second chance on the old one.

Go for it.
