Bongo Fury

Hi everyone

We seem to have air con failure just when we need it. When the button is pressed in the light didn't come on and neither did the air con, nor is the fan working. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need regassing? did it ever work? have you checked the fuses?

if you have bongo on tickover and turn the aircon on does the revs drop??

if the front heaters aint working take the cover off under the bonnet (air duct) and see if the fan spins ( make sure fans switched off and keys out otherwise you might free it and loose your fingers)
if the fan doesnt spin then its done in

If the fan's not working, chances are it's got wet & overcooked the control pack, both are fixable if you've got handy fingers, factsheets in the members area, links on the FAQ. make sure the drainhole under the fan in the plastic housing isn't blocked (you can access it from underneath) to check, I usually open them up now to about 10mm to allow any water & crap to drain out. No good just fixing the control/resistor pack as the fan'll just cook it again unless it's stripped & cleaned if that's the problem.

Hi D&D,

I would check fuse No 16 10amp in the cab first, if the light is not coming on.

Checked all the fuses, all ok, even the 3 under the bonnet in the black box. When on tickover, when air con button pressed no difference, but when fan turned on the engine note and the rev needle jumped up slightly.

Don't know how to check the fan under bonnet, need more info please before David starts this.

lift the bonnet
there is a air duct straight infront of you
take out the 2 clips at the front (on the front xmember)
clip that off and you will see the fan in its casing

So the heater fan works? This is the fan we're talking about, factsheet in the members area as per the links on the FAQ I linked to above. If you get air out the vents this is working, but the aircon isn't? the aircon is a function of the same system, the air is either heated by the warm water from the engine or coled by the aircon.
You need to be a bit clearer as to what is woking & what isn't for us to help. Did you look at the FAQ?

It's too dark now to check under bonnet but have also noticed that the rear fan switch doesn't work either.

Hi Deb's, did it work before the conversion was started as I'm thinking something may have been disturbed by accident

Took the black air thing off the front, opened a flap with foam on and I could see a white fan, the fan turns with your hand. Now when turning the ignition on when the fan switch is turned to 1 the green air con light comes on but the white fan does not go round. There is a sound of radiator fans on but when the fan switch is turn to 2, 3, and 4 and engine note changes and the green light goes off. Have noticed also the air con pipes freeze and there is bubbles in the glass window if this helps.

Desperate for an answer, have just driven back from Haworth and it was horrendous in the heat.

Having read the fact sheets, one of them sounds similar to our problem and it describes a 30 amp relay. Is a 30 amp relay the same as a 30 amp slow blow fuse pal type? and do they just pull out like a normal fuse?

Nope, the relay will be mounted on the inside of the wing I think, it's basically an electrically operated switch, with 4 terminals, the fuse is basically a piece of wire that melts when too much current passe through it preventing damage to the rest of the circuit & will be in the fusebox.
