headlight problem

For no apparent reason when I have lights on dipped beam they occasionally dim to a very dull glow, this can happen for 30 secs or 10minutes or anything in between. It always corrects itself, but can be rather unnerving. Full beam is fine. Fortunately it happens infrequently and so far not on a motorway so I have always been able to pull over.

My rev counter also intermittently stops working but not necessarily at the same time as the lights dim. I was wondering if there might be a connection, maybe a doggy earth?

Any BRIGHT spark shed any LIGHT on my problem?

there was an aftermarket mod added to some that did this to the headlights to save power and not dazzle when stopped in jap traffic.

failing that it does like there is a bad earth somewhere but there are that many earth blocks on a bongo. hopefully someone else will come along with advise

Dulling low beam is most likely a burnt out connector block to the headlight bulb.

Next time it happens, pull over, pop the bonnet & have a wiggle of the wires. Chances are you can find a resting place to keep a proper feed going for a short while.

I just replaced mine with spade connectors as a temp fix but H4 blocks are fairly easy to source.
