Advice on driver side lock

OK, some lowlife tried to get into my Bong by attacking the driver side lock. Didn't succeed, but has damaged the lock beyond repair.
We can still lock the car using the remote.
But if I replace the drivers side lock will the remote still work? Or will i just have to use another key to get in?
Or should I just blank it off somehow and use the remote?
All advice appreciated.

hi
replace drivers side lock it may be some one with some skill can swap the pins over in the lock and keep it on your old key but in the event they cannot then another lock with a key for the drivers side which you will not need to use as the remote locking will still open it from your old key which works the ignition of keyfob remote.

Could the lock be removed from the door skin, and sandwiched inside the door? (maybe taped up somewhere) I'd try it and see if the remote locking locking works 100%? If so, i'd blank the hole where the doorlock used to be housed from the inside. (a small flat sheet of steel could be tack welded into place) Then, depending on your skills with bodywork, the hole (which would now be only be a few mm deep) Could be filled then painted over, leaving a smooth surface... The idea behind this being that a lock that can't be seen can't have a screwdriver forced into it.
I've had it on my list of "to do's" to "de-lock" my bongo for quite some time now...leaving only the less obviously visible tailgate lock as my manual way into the vehicle should a central locking problem ever arise.

If you replace the lock then the remote will still work, even if you have to use a different key

yes you can remove the lock barrel completely it had no impact on the central locking or remote locking.
A tip that might work that I used to use on old fords back in the day (late 80's) was there used to be tap hole blanking plugs, which where about an inch in diameter had a rubber gasket and then in the centre a small bolt was brazed on and another big washer on inside then small nut, hard to describe, but check out the plumbing section in B&Q or somewhere for a tap hole blanking plate, some are domed and chromed or stainless.

The blanking plug is a good idea, more cost effective than expensive bodywork alterations.

Looks quite good too, being chrome but you will have to find chrome mirror covers and handle covers then...and its a blingtastic slippery slope from there...

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll just blank it off. We've never actually used it to get in.
Having said that, I'm paranoid about losing the electronic thingy. Can you get spares of them? Or is that hideously expensive?

You could blank off the 2 front doors and the sliding door and should you even need it you could climb in through the tailgate
