hi bongo dudes, my charge light lit up on the way home tonight :( ive just checked the voltage on my battery with engine running and idle and there is a slight drop when running from 12.3v to 12. v,,, :(
ive checked the wiring and connections to the alternator- all apperars fine.

are there any other checks i can do to the alternator before replacing it- continuity of the windings? if so how???

ive been quoted £330 pound for a new unit from my local motor factors!!!!

however i found this new unit on ebay with a one year warrenty and no exchange.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

looks like a good deal to me what do you guys think of the above?
just want to be sure its deff alternator fault before i spend my hard earned cash.
any help much appreciated

Hi,

One thing worth checking is there's a 12v feed to the alternator voltage regulator when the ignition is on, check the voltage regulator is getting this first, if it doesn't get the 12v feed it doesn't put any charge out. Worth checking. Not sure which one that would be on a bongo mind, maybe someone else can advise.

Voltage from alternator should be above 13v or the battery wont charge. However if a cell has gone down in the battery it may well give a false reading from the alternator. Kwik fit test best idea.
