connecting the injectors together is a pipe to return unused fuel to the tank. This pipe is connected to the advance unit on the pump by a 3" long 4 mm bore flexible hose, it is up behind the manifold. It goes soft with age and lets air in and fuel out particularly when things get hot under the bonnet so to speak. There are no clips on it simply pulls off, replace it with suit fuel hose from any motor factor.

It's good to hear of a simple and relatively inexpensive solution.
The actual fuel hoses are supposed to be replaced every 4 years... as you mention they do perish.

I wish, oh how I wish, we had an organised chart of symptoms and what to check for, cos this is a really interesting post. I've not read of anyone having this problem - no, correct that - anyone previously tracking this down as the cause of a poor engine running problem, and it should be added to a diagnostics chart. Maybe I'll bring this and the management of factsheets up at the AGM as I reckon we don't make the best of all these nuggets and factsheets
