Bongo Fury

Noticed the passenger window had stopped working , the central locking hasnt worked for a while but i wasnt overly bothered with that but am about the window

had a peak behind the door and all looked ok.

had a look at the wiring in between and it isnt -it's raining here just now so will need to do later - anyone any suggestions on best approach- i assume inside on the van side it is just a connector but will be tight for room and grommet looks a pain to reseat

there are three broken one's
the one that has the blue connector - i know is the central locking as it was an addition
the others are yellow/green and green/white

your best chance is to put fresh wire in further back at each end, trying to repair the wires where they are will lead to them breaking again, new wire will also be more flexible, solder joints are best with heat shrink tubing to cover the joins, second best crimp on connectors.

This is a big flaw in the bongo and a real pain in the bum,lol, mine has broken a few times and I have repaired it with crimps, I have a new loom to fit but not had time to do it, be careful the wires are so thin and delicate as I repaired one I broke another. Good luck.

ok fixed them -
but the white plastic bit that slots into the hole doesnt snap in and hold anymore - looks like there are three wee lugs that hold it in but i only have two now

i have just gaffer taped it to hold just now but probably nice to replace it - any idea where if they are available anywhere?

not in a great rush as it's one of thiose things that suppose if i strip it that far back to replace then may as well replace the loom

Yup, that happens...! I had the black wire go on mine.. Repaired it took up the slack in the wing & re wrapped...
I did away with the hinge clip.. (since removed.)

I added 8 more wires to my loom while i was at the repair.. Window roll up unit 4, Remote CL 2, a live wire for a switch back-light 1, & a wire to trigger a panic mode function.. ( the whole lot shuts down & rolls up at the flick of a switch.)

The white plastic grommet with the rubber sheath over it, (as with the one in the door too.) i think would come as part of the whole loom.? White connectors at each end, & the loom part ain't cheap!
I think i wrapped some plumbers PTFE tape around where it goes into the body work, wedged it in & slid the rubber over that? It hasn't moved in two years!

I since repaired two other vans without removing it.. (I know what happens. ) but i do have small girl like dancer hands...

best tip is dont use crimps, soldering is the best way as it doesnt add to the size of the loom and add to the problem. but if you have the time and skills then chop the loom inside the vehicle and replace the whole section, or if possible (not sure if you can still get it?) back in the old MOD days you used to be able to get hold of extra flexible wire?

I'd certainly agree there Julian! Crimp connectors & indeed the dreaded scotch lock tends to be unreliable on some of the more fiddly Bongo wiring...
