Bongo Fury

I have just bought an oil filter, and it is the second time I have bought an oil filter (name witheld) which has had the centre seal by the threaded inlet, displaced inwardly, and part of the filtration assembly dislodged. Please be aware that this can occur, and examine an oil filter carefully before commencing the service. It is possible that these filters maybe made solely for particular markets, but please check your purchase. On a quick search, on the internet, it is a German firm operating in Turkey, and although the market is labelled Western Europe, I suspect that they are mostly sold elsewhere.
I will provide details personally, but PLEASE CHECK BEFORE ASSEMBLY

on a similar note i have just bought for the first time a gen mazda filter £16.
but even superficially there are several differences,the filter (baffles) appear finer,less holes and the gen one has a divider plate inside,probably to seperate the flows.
any one else noticed this
these differences are compared with the unbranded made in japan filter that was fitted.

If you're at the Bash, I'll PM you and you can relay the information. It's my fault for buying this filter...memory should have reminded me of the last one I bought The filter concerned was of VERY lightweight construction...and the internals were VERY substandard
I'm glad thayou mentioned the Genuine Mazda article, as I was about to post that looks like one other Genuine article which is a must have!....I also thought that the Mazda one had a non-return valve to stop oil draining back to the sump, so the pump has as head start when cold starting.....anyway 16 quid...if it saves your motor , it's worth it!

Hi Helen.

You will not believe this but our ROGUE OIL LEAK that has been getting worse over the past few days was found to be the exact same problem. Oil filter was not seated properly. Jim went to do the alternator belts (can only be done from under the bongo and not unfortunately as some people have suggested from the top) hence having the Bongo jacked up and once Jim had finished the alternator belts successfully, (after over 2 hours though) he asked me to turn over the engine. Lo and behold the offending filter was P***ing the oil out. Tightened up a tad and then a tad more. Until we can do the necessary oil change on Saturday it seems to be holding it's own. We have left off the under engine cover so as to keep checking. Touch wood we are still ok. What a bummer. Jim says in all the thousands of oil changes he has done, on many, many cars in the past, none have let go as this one did.

We can also offer the name of our oil filter if anyone cares to pm us. Take care.

Hi,I would like the name of the oil filter,I can check this out for you .It might not be the filter that's causing your problem.

I am due to change the oil and filter on my Bongo and would also appreciate a PM about the filter.

HI I have had my Bongo for almost 7 years, I change the oil 4 times a year and the filter twice a year.( I get my oil at wholesale prices) I have found that the only filter I can fit without fear of seepage past the seal is the Nipparts Filter MD 069782.
On one occasion I found a Fram filter which is a direct replacement for the Bongo filter and fitted that, once up to running temperature it sprayed oil quicker than the gulf leak.


Be warned!!!
