Bongo Fury

I have just received some of Allans blanking plates, and in the instructions it talks about removing bolts at the rear and refers to the job as being 'a bit fiddly'...... As I am finding it more than a bit fidly, would there be the same effect if I only blank the front end of the pipe? Or am I oversimplifying things?

Failing that, I will take the top cover off the engine, is that a major job removing the shifter etc?

Take your time, I managed mine O.K. with Allan's plates, and I get seizures in my hands working on fiddly things...VERY painful, however, all I got was some scraped skin....So. If I can do it, you'll breeze it

Four bolts i think? You may only need to dislodge the cover a bit to get at where yer at to get your mits in!

Had i similar problem when my turbo hose came off up the front... The mechanic couldn't quite get his hands in to check it was back on properly?
I know nuffin about mechanics... But I do have smaller hands & under instruction helped out.. Job done!

I did it using Allan's blanking plates from the driver's seat hatch. The rear one is very fiddly indeed. When I later fitted a Webasto heater, and had the engine rear cover off it looked like it would have been much easier if I'd taken that plate off to do the rear EGR blank - worth a look.

aha, I had forgotten about the rear plate, thanks!

Anyone any input on just doing one end though? I am basically a lazy person!

Al's hands aren't small, but he's done so many he can fit both plates really quickly. Mind you, he can also dismantle things in the dark... it just takes practice.
Most people manage OK, but if you're struggling...

If you're blanking to stop the EGR working, you can just blank 1 end. If you also want to problems stop from a split pipe (they are known to split on the weld), blank both ends. Blanking both ends at once saves having to do it later. Use one plate at the EGR end to blank off a valve problem. Use one at the inlet manifold end to blank off a pipe problem. Blank at both ends for both problems.
