Hi Gabby, im based not to far from Cardiff myself, where`s the garage too, have they got experience working with bongo`s :?: I use a couple in caerphilly who know they`re stuff :) Try and find out the history of the V6 engine that they`ve got and compare the costs of rebuild against replace. Sorry to hear of your troubles, keep us posted on this one :(
Good luck Gabby

If the engine was running properly and you were happy with it, surely at the very worse, you need a new head or 2. Scrappy must have good second hand heads available.
Look at recon heads and price from there.

Hi
This guy frequently has engines for sale...with guarantee:

Might be worth a quick look???
Heads can be pricey!

Hi,

Something that may be of relevance (find confirmation elsewhere though!): I had a hankering after a ford probe a while off and when doing my research I think I found that the v6 engine was a "non-interference" engine .. I THINK the bongo/freda v6 is the same engine - which means that maybe when the belt broke there wasnt/shouldnt be any damage (depending on engine speed).

All I'm saying is it may be worth slipping a new cambelt on, turning the engine over and keep an ear out/feel for any resistance or nasty noises. If there is - proceed with original plan, if not you may save yourself £££'s. A lot of garages assume that when a belt breaks its major engine damage as most modern engines are interference designs. Why did the garage say the rockers were knackered -could they hear them?

I had a belt break on the motorway on an old cavalier --took me a while to work out it was a broken belt, put a new one on for £8 and we had 5 years more happy motoring!

Just a thought and worth a try and you may get lucky (but if its a Bongo specialist who had a look I would go with their prognosis, but ask anyway).

cheers,

Steve
