12V Adaptor with 12.5Amp Output

I recently bought a KAMPA Aqua Cooler. An excellent cooler for it's size and price. However, it took me a burned out 6 amp adaptor to realise that it pulls 12.5amps from a 12V source.

I have searched high and low for an adaptor/transformer but to no avail. The KAMPA high performance adaptor is out of stock everywhere, even Kampa themselves say they wont be getting anymore this season.

So I am stuck with a fridge that will only work from my battery. Not good.

Can anyone recommend an alternative mains adaptor? It must have an output of 12.5Amps. I'm really stuck.

:)

This one is just about adequate, but I would normally choose something rated a bit higher than what is required myself;

Or any of these but they would need housing in most cases;

I am electrically challenged, so may be missing the point but is this any good http://waeco.com/en/4091_720.php

That one's only 6 amp. Waeco do a bigger one, but that's still only 100W (8 amps at 12v).

Sorry, it was the 13v bit which caught my eye :oops: Re-read post and it's 12.5 amps not volts :oops: :oops:

Could you not still run it off the battery and keep that charged with a charger?

That way you have a charger that can do more than just keep the cooler going? Buy a single purpose adapter and that's all you have a single purpose adapter.

12.5A is one heck of a draw :shock: and I'd be surprised if a leisure battery could cope with the demand for long :?
I think you'd have to power it straight from the battery, as the cigar lighter socket wiring probably wouldn't cope, Also, you'll need a funny old charger to keep the battery from going flat in no time - something like this http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... starters-2

now if you had gone for the Waeco Compressor fridge....... :-"

seriously....... this is 240v to 12v/14amp.......... it may work...... the leccy folks on here would be better to say yay or nay.....http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/NR93150.html but it is £105.... :shock: :shock: if it works then a cheap cooler is as costly as a compresser job.... :-k

Thanks for the advice. I'm getting a little concerned that it will harm the Bongo electrics now!

This is the fridge
http://www.kampa.co.uk/portable_cooling/aqua14.html

Lets say I can power it from the mains when settled down, is it likely to burn me out when on the move for a couple of hours at a time.? It seems strange, as it is designed specifically for this purpose.

:lol: I did Mike, but it was enormous and so I sent it back. I would say, that it could cure the Bongo overheating problem. At the first signs of a rise in temperature, you could drive the Bongo into the coolbox and switch it on.

Kampa is 580 x 310 x 370 mm, Waeco CDF-18 is 414 x 465 x 300........

The Waeco has a 7 amp max start surge then 3 amps to run..... for once maybe twice an hour....

I see. But price was also a factor and these are £almost £300. I would if they were half that price, they look perfect.

I have never seen a plug in fridge with such a high current draw :shock: . This will probably flatten your average leisure battery in a couple of hours, and even if you get a charger hooked up, there are not many that will kick out 12.5 Amps continuously, without getting very hot (mind you, the 12v adaptor they sell are suitably beefy). I would be very weary about plugging this into a standard 12v socket in a car (specially a bongo) as it could easily overload the sockets standard wiring.

Does anyone know what load the 12v socket can handle.

The sockets are rated at 10 Amps, the fuse is rated at 15 Amps as it powers several other things as well.
