Bongo Fury

Hi.

I recently had my Bongo serviced and when it was returned I was getting no sound out from the stereo.
The stereo had power and seemed to be working but nothing was coming out of the speakers, not even hissing.

After looking around on this forum I started having a look at the wiring to see if anything seemed amiss.
After much messing around I noticed that when I disconnected the connector for the rear speakers the front speakers started working. As soon as I reconnected them they stopped.

Has anybody else experienced this and if so did they find out what was going on.

Do you have a removable screen/button panel on the radio??

A lot of stereo's will have power protection circuits such that if one channel is short circuit it will turn off the power to the whole amplifier, I just wonder if you have a short on one of the rear speakers that is causing the protection to turn on and thus shut down the lot, when you disconnect it it comes back again OK ? Try disconnecting one rear channel at a time and see which one causes the problem, if so then investigate the wiring right up to the speaker - if you have a multi-meter then put it on Ohms range say 200Ω and check each circuit you may even here a click from working speakers, and a reading of 4-8 Ohms (Ω).

I was wondering if the radio/CD had been left on & the garage in desperation to turn it off (cuz maybe they couldn't find the off button) had dislodged the panel & now it's not quite making contact (or shorting.)??

The radio does have a removable panel but I am pretty certain it is to do with the rear speakers.
The radio will be switched on and when I disconnect the rear speakers the front speakers will start working and when I reconnect they stop.
I will disconnect one speaker at a time to check Geoff's idea.
Is it really difficult to get access to the rear speakers as looking around the forum people have talked about having to remove the rear seats etc.

It is a bit of a fiddle to get at the rear speakers with the seat in situ..

If you have rolling bench seats? Roll em out the way of the rear panel as much as you can.!??
Undo the bolt for the rear seat belt in the boot space, & pop the rear panel out from the top.
The seat may get in the way slightly as you lever out a space to work in, you might be able to get behind the speaker & locate (from memory) a white two wire connector block coming of the loom...

With a bit of luck you will have three working speakers after the first panel removal/speaker disconnection... & know where you are!
