Coolant levels.

Just returned from an unfortunate trip to Brighton, visiting my son and his new broken leg.
Whilst there, the Bongo overheated. I stopped immediately and called the RAC, who identified the problem as a possible thermostat failure. I took it to a garage from the list on the bongofury website. They told me that the radiator had gone and they duly fitted a new one. I asked if they were familiar with the coolant bleeding process and they assured me that they were.
£350 later, I set off to drive to London, which was fine. The next day day when I started the engine the low coolant light began twittering. I topped up the expansion tank a little and, worried, drove cautiously home to S. Wales. Got here without incident, but on checking the level this morning found that it had dropped again.
The level is still just below the full line and I am wondering if it finds it's level as I had previously topped it up above the full line!
I know that it all sounds a bit paranoid but I would be very grateful for any feedback as we are taking off for a trip to Scotland next week!

Some people inc some japanese bongo spanners such as Masabee, find that the coolant will drop overnight after a coolant change, Masabee recommneds checking the level for 3 days after the coolant change.......
I know of a Bongo that has been topped up religiously for weeks when it had dropped just a shade under full (paranoid owner...).....yet when left alone for a week or two, never lost another drop..... I guess if your alarm isn't going off when your system is cold you have not got got much to worry about......... if your feeling a bit edgy about the level.......lift the bonnet and check your coolant but if your between Low & High and the level is not dropping..... your within working parameters

agree with mike sometimes they want to run at a level just below the top line,try to be brave and let it find its own level,but please be cautious.
it may be prudant to have the system pressure tested,to see if this shows up anything.
also has the new rad got a pipe coming out of the top,next to the radiator cap,if so this should be blanked off.it should vent ONLY from the expansion cap pipe.

It can take a few days for the last few bubbles of air to work themselves out of the system....after about a week I would recommend :- first thing in the morning when everything is cold......get the coolant exactly to the level of the FULL line......when it's hot it will be a cm or so above this line (perfectly normal) as the coolant expands as it gets hotter.
After doing this I would then check it a week later first thing in the morning when it's cold....it should still be on the full line....if it is a bit low top up exactly to the line again....do this for a couple of weeks.......if it continues to drop in level a bit after a couple of weeks you most likely have a small leak which you should attend to........If it stays on the full line then you are o.k. and from then on the coolant alarm will protect that level in the tank for you. If the alarm ever goes off...stop at once and find out why.
The Beep/LED flash when you turn the key is telling you that the coolant level in the tank is good.

Mine settles just below the line, but above the alarm level - and has done since the new radiator last year with no problems. Keep an eye until you are sure you are ok but it should be fine.

that sounds a strange one,
the only thoughts i could maybe give are there may be a little blockage in the system somewhere,like in the heaters, or something,that was holding the pressure for a time and now its let it go,but its unlikely isnt it,very strange!
just when you think you have it sussed bongos do something like this to keep you on your toes,
