225/40 x 18 tyres - correct pressures?

So, I've taken the plunge and bought the dirtiest Bongo in the South West:

...but as you can see it has kickin' bling bling innit wheels on. Tyres are from the renowned 'Yellowsea' company (ahem), and are 225/40 x 18. I won't tell you their load rating.

What pressure should they be? Intelligent guesses are very welcome - I have more experience of dating Kelly Brook than I do of 18" low profile tyres

There isn't one, as they aren't a standard fitment it really is trial and error until you find what suits - even folk already using that size (if there are any) won't necessarily agree.

If you won't reveal the load index, does that mean it's less than 92 front 96 rear?

If so, be aware you may not be insured if something untoward should happen.

92 is about as high as that size goes - 88 is just as likely.

92 all round. It's unlikely I'll put that much of a load in the vehicle, so I'll live with the risk until I turn up a more standard set of rims.

Anyway, anyone got a ball park idea of pressures?

on a similar kind of note, Fake Britain was rather interesting about copied tyres and stopping distance etc last night.

Well, you did make me think.

I was waxoyling underneath today and noticed not one but TWO half egg sized bulges in the inside sidewall of the N/S rear tyre!!!

Oh, and a bit more

Wanted ad placed for standard wheels - you can't get 225/40 R18 tyres in the right load rating. No more bongoing until they're sorted, eh?

You can get 245/45/18 at a relatively sensible price with decent load rating (101) - they work quite well on a bongo, and will be cheaper than looking for new wheels and tyres - at least you know you will have new tyres.

Thanks guys - that's very helpful.

As far as I can tell, 245/45 or 245/40 tyres on the rear, coupled with 225/40 on the front wouldn't cause a problem, no? The Bongo is 2wd, if that makes any difference.

It makes all the difference in the world - as if it isn't 4WD front and rear tyre/wheel sizes are irrelevant, as there is no link between the axles.

Tyre/wheel size only matters if you have 4WD, where the axles are linked.
