Bongo Fury

Well the weld on the pipe going to the back box is blowing down the seam and will need to be welded/fixed or replaced.

My question is; say I were to go out and get some of that, for lack of better words blu-tack stuff you use to fix blowing exhausts and sealed it all up completely (so the exhaust system is no longer blowing), now would that be OK for an MOT inspection or is that counted as a temporary repair and no good? If I can get away with just doing a "quick fix" I will but I don't want to do all that, do the MOT and it fail it.

if the exhaust isn't leaking with the temporary repair bandage, then techinically it's an MOT pass, but I know my MOT tester (who is one of the Old School and will let a lot of things pass i.e - cracked headlight - so long as the beam pattern is unaffected - Pass) he would make you change it.....or no MOT pass.....as it's an exhaust, the item that removes dangerous gases away from the engine..... Get a new part fitted.....

Yes if the rest of the exhaust is sound, sealing of a leak with "Gun-Gum" is quite acceptable, as it is no different to sealing the joints between pipes with the joint compound they squirt in from a tube.

If it is just the weld that is going, see if you can get it brazed up for now, as that will last until the whole thing needs replacing.

If you are going to keep your Bongo for a long period of time I would highly recommend investing in a full stainless steel exhaust.

No more worries about the exhaust at each MoT, and is certainly a more cost effective in the long term.

i have a back box here you can have if you come and get it, im in sunny port talbot which isnt to far from you.

Some people have said the s/s/ exhuast is a bit noisier than the standard assembly so worth checking that out before committing.

I never find Gun Gun lasts for long, a lot of faff for little return - anyone else found that?

Mine is a little "tinny" when cold on a morning start but is no noisier than a standard Bongo exhaust........the maker will spec the Stainless Exhaust to your requirements...... for sound/tailpipe..... i.e sporty/normal standard/large bore/twin pipes......

guess you dont want a free back box then?

Thanks for the kind offer and not saying no to you sooner but the back box is OK, just a 1 cm split in a seam in one of the pipes.

SS exhaust will be next but if I could just fix it with some "gun-gum" then that would put the £250 in my pocket for another 6 months rather than having to do it all now.
