What does the little black sliding switch on the side door do?

I thought i could manage without a manual, but not knowing what all these japanese signs are saying is starting to drive me crazy!

Child lock

It seems to have 4 or 5 positions tho?

Do you mean the 5 brass plunger type jobbies on the door frame? they're for the soft closing & central locking connections.

Dunno The only black sliding switch I've got is the child lock. Perhaps, as Kirsty said, you're referring to the plungers for central locking etc.
