Bongo Fury

hi,

bongo seems quite smokey, ok when cruising however pulling away at roundabouts or increasing revs there seems more than normal amount of smoke. It has a bluey tinge to it however been checking the oil and no obvious loss?

sometimes the turbo doesnt kick in on rare occasions too.

I have had a coolant leak yesterday (a corroded pipe burst) and it is getting changed tomorrow. I did want to change the thermostat but couldnt get one till next week.

any ideas about smokey exhaust? stagges to check?

what oil have you got in it please.

no idea mate, the garage did a full service and changed the oil?

the garage said it would have been 5w 30?

Had the egr blanked off :/

Blue smoke indicates a lack of air therefore incomplete combustion or engine oil entering the combustion cycle

Has the garage used a cheap air filter?

Otherwise the answers get more complex.

However All diesels smoke but sometimes the smoke isn't visible due to atmospheric conditions.

Dont judge the smoke factor at anything other than normal running temp say after half an hour of continuous running, and perhaps get a specialist to give you an opinion.

ive been looking at it more and it smokes when it revs above 2k revs. the back of the bongo soots up too. and if i do kick down... well theres dark rain clouds form .

i am now thinking turbo>?

Mines had similar symptoms, plus its been getting through about a litre of oil every 1500 miles or so.

Turns out to be worn piston rings.

the turbo kicks in at 1900 -2000 revs so maybe your on to it,if it has an internal oil leak then you may be burning a little.

Blue smoke is typical of worn piston rings TBH, but it could be the turbo, chances are it's just more load as you boot it, compression test?
