Oil leak from filter.

Hello chaps
Go easy on a newbie!
My brother and I picked up a bongo at the weekend which had signs of a oil leak,The garage assured us this was fixed with a new filter and fresh oil.
Only last month the engine had a full rebuild which obviously had a new filter put on then, but that leaked as well(the garage said the first filter hadn't been tightened properly)
Is there a common problem with leaky filters etc? If so any fixes/tips/
Sorry for probably a daft Q but Bongo's are new territory for me coming from Mk4 golfs!
Cheers dodders

It's not a general problem, but there was a batch of faulty futures that leaked. Should be OK now though

There were some dodgy filters knocking about a couple of years ago, but if it's happened with two filters, I'd check the sealing face hasn't been damaged. I take it the filter was put on with a smear of oil on the rubber gasket to stop it "rucking up" as it's tightened?
Welcome to the forum BTW

Welcome,
I'm with you on the oil smeared on the seal Kirsty. Is it leaking now. if it is take it back.

Who knows, but its pithing oil out now when running.
Seems funny that two different garages can get it wrong.
Third time lucky maybe?
Just another thing,The bongo's in need of 4 tyres, which are all 215's reading on here I need to change the fronts to 195's,Yes?
Thanks for the welcome, think i might enjoy it on here

I'd definitely get the sealing face checked then, are you sure it is the filter it's coming from?

I'd be looking at where its coming from and checking oil levels. They may have cross threaded the filter. If it is leaking I'd ring them and see about collection for repair.

No, especially if it's a 4WD. Loads of us use 215/65 all around. If you do get 195s, they will need to be 195/70 or you could wreck the viscous coupling on a 4WD. If it's 2WD, it doesn't matter either way

Sorry forgot to add that in the sig.
Yes its 4WD,so best to stick with 215's all round.

Cheers everyone for your help and advice.
Just a thought I had, could it be that both garages put on the wrong size filter
definitely the garage we bought from wasn't a specialist in Bongo's
Its booked in with Discount Trucks in Newbury on Friday, so,on the rep that they have on here they should (hopefully) sort it!

hopefully they'll sort out the fuel gauge problem as well.

I had that thought too, if the first one put the wrong filter on & the second garage fitted the same as what was on there....

Discount Trucks'll sort it

I changed to 215's all round on my freda, it then juddered on the back end until I put the correct size tyres back on, mines a 4wd.

Ooo! this is abit confusing
Do you all recomend sticking with 215's all round or putting 215's on front and 195/70's on back
