Removed roof bars - now have holes in roof!

As it says, I removed my roof bars today in order to be able to fit my new AFT rain cover and now I have 4 holes where the bolts fitted. I'm wondering what the holes originally had filling them, as they surely can't have come new like that. I don't really want to leave them with the holes open (currently have bolts sticking out of them!), so can anyone shed any light on this or suggest anything to plug them with?
Cheers
Andrew

Did the blind inserts come out then? Or weren't they there in the first place?

Blind inserts?
The roof bars were already on my bongo when I had it, so I'm presuming what was originally in the holes before the roof bars were fitted were removed and 'put in a safe place'.
Next question - where can I get some from? Breaking bongo's?

Worth a try, not sure if either of the guys in the breaking bongo's section had afts? wouldn't think they'd be a high demand item so should be plenty of spares around form the usual suspects like bongobits, bellhill, wheelquick, Allans, etc if no-one on here comes up with them, or this one may help for now -

Thanks Kirsty. I'll ring round in the morning, unless someone can come up trumps on here. Thanks for the link to the other thread too.
Cheers

You could just put some bolts the right length in the holes, I look at the size in the light.

Neither of mine have bolts in them - just the threaded holes.

I'm obviously looking for something that doesn't exist then.
I wrongfully presumed that the bongo wouldn't have come new with 4 holes already in the roof and would have an original plug or something. I'll get me coat!
However, one of my threaded 'holes' actually was loose as it dropped down through the hole

. Only when I raised the AFT did it drop down below, and was one heck of a job to get back in from underneath the AFT as the rail goes straight over it, but there is the slightest of gaps you can squeeze it back in and screw in a bolt from above - if nothing was screwed into it from above it would just drop back down, hence my thinking that there must have been something there originally!
I would prefer to plug the hole on the top as any water could seep through if it or any of the others drop out. Although the water would not get directly inside the fabric, any water trapped there would not be a good thing I'm presuming!
Cheers

Eyup Andrew

~you could fill holes with silicone then if wanting to fit roof bars again it's easy to dig out & reveal holes.

Thanks - possible idea. I'm now wondering though whether I'm creating an issue that doesn't exist, as no one else seems concerned there are 4 holes in their roof!

What about some rubber grommets

any good diy store should stock them, measure the hole for a good tight fit

Hi, the roof 'holes' are used in the factory to lift the roof on, so all factory AFT's will have them.
8mm bolts will screw into them, but the holes don't go through the roof, try putting a match down the hole and you will feel that it stops partway down, so you won't get lots of water running through.
If you are ever thinking of putting roof bars back on, let me know, as I think I might have a solution which would allow you to have roof bars when required, without getting in the way of the AFT cover.

The "female" roof inserts are screwed into a "nut" which fits from the inside - this can work loose - tighten the "nut" from underneath the roof and the inserts won't come out or leak water
