V6 stutter

Got a lovely new (to me)1999 V6 ...it was running super untill about 3 weeks ago when it started coughing and stalling at tickover and generally running rough....this was traced to the MAF sensor plug which was loose...simple fix !! since then we have come to notice a odd missed beat when warmed up at tickover and a odd "stutter" at about 40MPH 2000 revs when not under load....She (it's a girl bongo) accererates perfectly and goes like stink....
we put new plugs in....no differance.....any ideas out there.....we have a LPG conversion and it does it when running on either petrol/LPG but more often and more noticable when on gas ??

starts and runs smooth when cold

Any ideas what we can try next ??

Thanks....I will look at that tomorrow....
Could be a plug lead with high resistance I suppose......would expect that to show under load though..Will put a ohm meter on them tommow

I'd be looking at the leads, dizzy & rotor arm to start with.

Yep...doing that tomorrow...but...(always a but) wouldn't you expect a ignition fault to show up most under load ??
A set of Mazda leads, cap and rota will cost loads.....and may not solve the problem.
However point taken and I will have a good "fiddle" in the morning

Dunno how relevant the MX6 V6 engine is to the Bongos variant but its sounds very similar to one that crops up on the MX6 forum I dip into from time to time.

Thats pretty much always rotor arm/dizzy problems.

In fact, my MX6 does the same from time to time at around 2000rpm but more noticeable in damp or wet weather.

Think I will bite the bullet and get a Mazda cap/leads/rota...that will either fix it or it won't.
Anyone know a approx cost ??

Have a bit of a search for similar discussions on Dizzy, leads etc, pretty sure it's come up before a few times Haydn.

Rotor Arm £21ish

http://www.bongobits.com/Main.asp?PageN ... roduct=221

Dizzy cap £63

http://www.bongobits.com/Main.asp?PageN ... roduct=222

I paid about 40 quid for a decent set of leads for my 6.

http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... t=ht+leads

could be any of them Haydn but i believe itermitent stutter is indicative of coil, i have the same the only bit i not done is the coil  The elecs are more prone to fail when hot

Bongo bits isn't always cheaper try Vospers exeter you may be surprised  the cheapest i got cap was mazda but that was a while ago, check out the link above for leads. no need for mazda ones IMHO :D i think hogman got a cap from across the atlantic but wether it worked i dunno and suspect maybe not

By the way while your in there make sure the dizzy cap has a gasket it is prone to damp

sounds like play in the dizzy, the dizzy timing is wandering!!! imo.
when under load the timing is spot on,when ticking over its wandering, when on the overun its out, and causing the stall.see if there is obvious play in the shaft/drive.
