Bongo Fury

Hi all, I've finally decided to purchase a cruise control kit for my manual 2.5 diesel bongo.
I've chosen to purchase a Waeco Magic Speed MS300. Before I actually make the purchase is there any advice anyone can offer, and also could anyone tell me the colour of the cable for the speed sensor as this unit needs a speed sensor input. Any advice would be greatly received.

Not sure about wiring but be sure to inform your insurance provider of your mod or your insurance could be invalid.

Premiums should not change.
Call your company and find out who they will accept as a qualified person to check that your installation is correct. They allowed me to use an automotive electrical engineer in Bedford who confirmed that it was ok.

I have not heard of anyone fitting the Waeco Magic Speed MS300 - most people seem to have fitted the MS50 (I think).

Yes check it is possible to fit it to a Bongo.

But looking here http://waeco.com/tmp/MS-300_EB_d_04.pdf it looks to be almost identical to an MS50 just updated a bit. Same actuator and possibly the same control box with an updated control pad.

How much do they cost? Last price for the MS-50 was about £140.

The price at the mo is £204, the pre requisit is 12v, Vac pump, Mechanical throttle and speed or rpm signal, I have all apart from the wiring colours. These seem to be recommended for bongo's

Yes - sounds just like an updated MS-50.

You obviously know where the vacuum take-off is on the pipe at the front of the engine then? No need to cut into any pipes.

I subsequently changed the wrapped metal foil "LED reflector" at 8.) and 9.), to a convex mirror removed from one of those small Halfords stick-on overtaking mirrors, fixed below the controller with a lump of epoxy putty. I think I got the wiring colours from an earlier thread on cruise control, so a search here should give them to you.

From memory the speedo sensor wire is blue/white, but be aware there are two wires this colour behind the dash pod. Now you know that it is obvious which one you want.

Don't try and use Scotchlocks as the Bongo wire is too thin for a good contact, and as said you don't need to cut any pipes for vacuum take off.

Lift passengers seat and at the front of the engine is a vertical vacuum pipe with a small T take off. Remove the rubber cover by pulling the very end with a pair of pliers, then push fit the pipe from your sensor.

Not on V6's BTW, although I know that's not the issue here.

Thanks Geoff. I think I enquired about that one, and was told it isn't/can't be MS-50 compatible but I'll check back when I've got some time.

Yes the MS300 can have the option of the stick from the columb, but also a steering wheel pod is available, so adjustments can be made from the steering wheel.
Also looked at a gold cruise, which to be fair I've never heard of, but this has a nice gear stick version, pretty useful if its a manual bongo like mine, but I would imagin useless with auto's as no need to use the stick really.
Going to start some more research, cheers all keep it coming.

No idea if its relevant but I have a spare V6 MX6 which is about to be scrapped but before I bin it I'm pulling off all the relevant compatible Bongo bits - Obviously.

One of the nicer features of this old girl is the original Mazda cruise control with all the control gubbins on the (same as the Bongo) steering wheel. It looks very smart.

Is this of use to anyone with the savvy to retro fit to a Bongo or should it go to the crusher?
