I fitted a Remote door locking system a while back now its been working a treat untill today, took the drivers door panel off to investigate as that is were I put the electronic brain unit, I had put it into a foam sleeve to protect it from getting knocked about, when I took it out from the bottom of the door panel it was soaking wet, I could actually wring the water outof the foam which had acted as a sponge, so I think this could be the probable cause as electronics dont like water, allthough there are no fuses blown, the light that shows me the system has been operated is lit and will not switch off which suggests to me that the units relays are not switching, the fob and the spare are trying to transmit, I dont know yet if the unit comes apart to check and dry it out will try that as soon as poss, But is it natural for the inside of the door panel to got wet or could it have been condensation :?: :?: :?:

im afraid its normal, thats why they have drain holes in the bottom.the gen mazda receiver is placed under the window switch glued to the door skin and protected by a flap of plastic sheet acting like an umberella,so mazda know its a problem,

Hi Colin
That is, as Ady says, a normal problem
Many years back, with the extended anti-rust guarantee offered by manufacturers, they all decided to use wax injection with compounds similar to waxoyl in the cavities, and in order to comply with guarantees for anti-corrosion,you must take the vehicle to an authorised dealer, who is SUPPOSED to top up the wax. Often this is ignored, in my opinion, but if you have an enthusiastic dealer, they will do the top-up...so, this accumulates in the bottom of the door and clogs the drain holes...Also, enthusiastic use of waxoyl does the same.
If this is a problem with yours, check the holes are free, by poking with some wire. If water comes out, warm the outer skin and bottom of the door for a while with a hair dryer for a while to see if you get any wax out of the holes. Failing that, drill some more holes in the very bottom, and paint them well with a rust-proofer and a bit of Hammerite or similar, and keep checking to ensure they don't get corroded.
Cheers
Helen

Hi Colin, plenty of room for that sort of gubbins in the cabin under the dash or in the foot well drivers side... Take the dash end cap off by the mirror switch, loads a room, nice & dry!

Thanks for all your replies guys I will be looking into fitting the unit higher up the door with the top flap or putting it inside, that will mean running another couple of wires , not a problem though cheers

Update, got the wifes hair dryer out this afternoon on the brain unit as I could`nt see a way to get at the inside, after giving it a good going over for a while not letting it get too hot it started working again, so I have secured it with tie wraps through the holes in the door panel higher up and put a plastic cover over the top allowing it to breath, lets hope this does the trick
