Bongo Fury

Hi,

I have a 95 2.5 4x4 and some serious auto gearbox issues. A couple of weeks ago i put it into reverse but it would not go. i put my foot down and it clunked and went backward jerkily. My wheels were straight. Then it was fine. I thought it must be low on fluid and not engaging, so I bought some fluid and topped it up. we drove 350 miles and arrived home. i put it in reverse and it clunked again./ now when i start it, its really noisy in neurtral and park and stalls in reverse or drive. My guess is that the torque convertor is full of whatever gears i chunked earlier.

1 where can i get a replacement?
2 does the 2wd box use the same rear prop shaft?
3 has anyone done a 5 speed conversion? (i'd love to do that)
4 any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, my knowledge of auto boxes is, at best, limited, but we have a couple of auto box experts on here, so one should be along shortly.

It sounds like you have broken the geartrain inside the transmission so a rebuild or a replacement 'box and converter will be in order. I don't know where you are in the country as you haven't listed that in your profile but there are a few rebuilders in the UK that I would recommend (& a whole lot more that I wouldn't! ). A used transmission will be your cheapest option, they are good units normally so you would be unlucky to get a duff one but you MUST make sure the oil cooler is correctly flushed through or you will get your replacement unit contaminated with debris from the failed old one. As transmission rebuilders we have specialised equipment just for this purpose.
