free camping?
I am currently on route to the west coast, Skye and further up. I am sure I have read somewhere that you can legally free camp in Scotland. Anyone let me know on some must visit/see places.
Lets hope the weather improves a bit.
Cheers.

We've done a couple of tours up that way. Once you get up past Loch Lomond it gets quite breathtaking at almost every corner & they positively encourage a bit of Wild Camping, as long as you are tidy & don't cause any obstruction, the choices are pretty much unlimited.
There might be some food for thought in some of our blogs.

If your going to Skye then you have to check out the Quirang in the North of the Island and Elgol in the South. You can rough camp on the road to Elgol. Theres a big loch with plenty of stops bythe side of it on the road to Elgol. I would suggest stopping at the Quirang and checking out the sunrise in the morning. Glencoe is also worth a stop. Either rough camp or if you want a shower/ toilet then check out the Red Squirrel campsite. It cost £8 per adult and they allow camp fires until 11pm.
Some other places I would recommend visiting is the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, the road to the Isles from Fort William to Mallaig taking in the Glenfinnan viaduct and monument. Eilean Donan castle on the road to Kyle of Lochalsh and Plockton are worth a stop. Further North head for Torridon and Ullapool areas. Both beautiful!
Hope this helps.

Looks a bit busy.
Are there any others that may be a little less congested?

As Dandy's link probably tells you it doesn't apply to vehicular camping - however if you want to legally park the Bongo somewhere and then go off and camp - yes you can.mark.hingston wrote: I have read somewhere that you can legally free camp in Scotland.
"Free camping" in campers and m/homes is beginning to attract adverse comment especially on the Outer Isles.

Re: free camping?
Good spot in Carbost just opposite the Talisker distillery overlooking the bay, never had any problems there. Old Inn 2 mins walk up the road is a good bet for food, much better than the touristy Sligachan (although their old mountaineering photos are well worth a look).
