i've seen a round rocker switch fitted the panel to some cars by drivers left knee, that turns the sensors off,or sometimes theres only the rectangle switch marked sonar (for when your in submarine mode! lol)to either side of the steering wheel, do you have the little display on the dashboard?

Gently pull out that switch and make sure the plastic connector is there and in place. Do you also have a distance meter on the rear roof ?.

When you turn on the sonar button, mine beeps and shows on the LCD screen on the dash and waves going out to show you its working.

If you don't have a display on the dashboard and the one in the rear then its not a factory fitted system, it sounds more like a 3rd party fit which may have been removed.
See here for the Factory fitted kit http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... 2of03.html

There are 2 types, unsure if both factory fitted, but the 2nd type only has 2 rear sensors and not always a front sensor, and is usually located under the carpet of the passenger footwell (below ecu) and has Mazda stickers all over it, is powered on by a blue/white stripe wire, which is sometimes tied in with stereo/nav equipment when its imported and is sometimes overlooked when its all removed, so pull the passenger carpet up and have a lok underneath, will at least tell you if you have a unit there to start with!
