Bongo Fury

Hello, can anyone tell me the torque settings for 15inch alloys. my tyre fitter could not find the bongo in his book so torqued the wheels to 110nm 30mil is this about right. Thanks in advance for any info.Michael "Bongoin in the Peak"

Blimey, I never torque mine. I use a socket and extension bar and do them sensibly tight, but not so tight as to make them impossible to undo with the extension bar. The logic (as I see it) is that the standard wheelbrace would not have allowed me to get them that tight as it doesn't give such good leverage. And if the wheelbrace is reckoned to be suitable for the job, then I should be nicely beyond that limit

I use 120 nm or 88.5 ft/lbs.

I don't think any tyre fitters/ dealers bother~fair enough they use that gun thing but all the cars i've had with new tyres fitted when it comes to taking your wheel off you have to use long levered bar with a piece of pipe for leverage to even move them~as Mike say's tighten them sensibly with a good wheel brace.

12-15 Kg.m or 117-147 Nm.......

Tut Tut you should Torque up your nuts at least monthly and you can buy cheap enough wrenches these day for the purpose.......BDC lost some wheel nuts recently .....lesson learned....

I think that you will find that any decent tyre fitter or mechanic will use a torque bar to tighten ALLOY wheel nuts.

Hmmm. I've not torqued a wheel nut in 45+ years of changing tyres. Lesson learned?

I'd better go and tick off the reputable tyre fitters who didn't torque my alloy wheels then I guess

But seriously, I do think the extension bar principle should provide a safe answer to the problem, even with alloys.

And a word of warning for those persuaded to use a torque wrench but with no previous experience. I have seen more than one person set one wrongly because they did not understand how to use one. The result was either dangerous or damaging.

Wheelquick springs to mind...... when they did mine..... needless to say I was advised to check them again in 500 miles.....
