Bongo Fury

Hi all , i havent posted on here for a while , but really need some help , started my bongo on monday morning to find no power , just enough to get off the drive and 10 metres up the road . it will just about start and tickover but doesnt matter how hard i put my foot down the revs dont increase . i have had a good read of the post on here and it would make sense that it might be a fuel supply problem.

a mate who used to be a mechanic (but now works on planes) has had a look and says the hand primer on top of the fuel filter is faulty and not enough fuel is getting to the pump ,

where can i get this part from ??

i have used bongobits in plymouth before for filters and stuff , and will give them a try tomorrow

any help would be appreciated

I ain't no techie, you sure the hose hasn't come off the turbo?

would that make a difference if the revs arent high enough for the turbo to kick in ?

Just in addition... (& this may have no bearing at all!?) RE; the hand primer. I ran out of diesel about a 1/4 mile from a garage once (about 3.5 years ago, not long after i got mine.)

Anyway, i just put a can of derv in, cranked it, & off i went for a tank up!

The diaphragm under the primer can perish and develop a leak that lets air in.

Not all Bongos have that type of filter head (mine doesn't) but they are a standard item on lots of diesels so it's not a Bongo specific bit any good diesel specialist should be able to supply one.


BUT before you do that just try changing the fuel filter as your symptoms sound just like a blocked filter. It doesn't take much to block one up enough to cause problems.

Be sure to clean out the Banjo filter as well.

Diesel specialist... I imagine this would be someone who strips down and rebuilds diesels/diesel pumps for a living? They should have access to the parts. Scanner may know someone.

no filled up with a full tank about 10 days ago

In Brixham I would have though any marine engineer who does work on diesels.

Around here we used to have a Lucas/CAV depot but they seem to be few and far between these days.

got the filter housing from bongobits in Plymouth , will fit it tommorrow , fingers crossed
