ABS & Front hubs

Hi All,

After a skidding episode a few months ago I investigated why my ABS wasnt working - turned out the dash light had been removed.. and the reason for that was to mask the lack of front sensors.. (My bongo definitely should have them as it has the pump and rear sensors). Having a good look at the front hubs with the wheel off I couldnt actually see where they would mount in it - a photo on ebay of some hubs didnt help, and the lushprojects diagrams suggested they mounted close in behind the brake shield, but I couldnt see a hole there on mine...

I suspect my Bongo has had a crunch in the past (slightly different front wings, and a skew-wiff towing eye) - is it possible the front hubs have been replaced from a non-abs Bongo? Has anyone replaced a sensor on the front - where exactly does it go in the hub?

cheers!

Steve

Hi,

Cheers - does the abs sensor itself mount in the hub so the tip is just shy of the reluctor ring? Is the mounting on the top/bottom/side of the hub? A photo of your old hubs would be handy, but just a description of where exactly so I can have a good grope around and see if mine matches!

Thanks,

Steve

you could trace the wiring for the front hubs, they should come out of the front into the wheel arches and down to your wheels

Hi,

Cheers - them hubs were the ones I was closely scrutinising - however looking at the jap-parts site they actually sell the hubs new-- and the only ones they list are for a non-abs bongo and they're identical to mine. So I'm pretty sure at some stage mines had the front hubs replaced - and because they put on used hubs from a non-abs bongo they've pulled off the abs connectors - which explains the lack of the wiring and sensors, and why my abs light is on.. and why some scumbag took out the dash light to mask it all! (Dr Watson or what!)

Luckily (for me) - I got the Bongo as a fresh import from a reputable garage 6 months ago and it has a warranty, so its over to them now.. they wouldnt want to be selling a car with defective brakes. I dont think it was the importing garage that did the dirty as they seemed pretty genuine and knowledgable about Bongos.. which is why I bought it from them.

cheers,

Steve

Hi,

Brilliant - that's exactly what I needed as mine are most definitely not like that - I assumed the reluctor ring was enclosed within the hub but apparently not! Time for a phone call!

cheers!

Steve
