Dodgy fuel guage

My fuel gauge doesn't read full when it is. Reads just over the three quarters mark with the tank brimmed.
Not a big problem, but just wondered if there's a simple fix.
Any ideas please.

Replace, clean or repair the earth wire to the tank unit, or put a totally new earth wire to the tank
There's loads on here about it if you look back through the threads or do a search

There's also a fact sheet here

Hi Briwy it may be a bad earth, mine was, and its a very simple fix. If you have access to the factsheets the details are on there. Basically after 15 years the earth on the tank can become erratic and it needs to be fixed. A case of cleaning around one of the screws on the top of the tank and connecting this to the earth return.

Whereabouts exactly is the service plate to the fuel tank?
I've only got short seat rails so I'm wondering if I will have to take the middle seats out to enable me to get the carpet up over the hatch.
Is it just the carpet that covers the plate or does it go under the side trim as well?

Mine does the same. HOWEVER - It runs well past the
E mark, if i fill it on empty, it'll take 40 or so litres 45 max.
I tend to run it untill its dropped past the
E, but even then theres still 10l left.
At some point I shall pop the needle off & move it up to fit, but I quite enjoy frightening Mrs M when playing Fuel Guage Roullette in out of the way places.

This thread from Kirsty has excellent pictures

Also if you can't access it from the top then 321Away's suggestion also helps

Thanks Geoff.
Looks like 321s solution is the easiest option
