Check that the gear lever is in P, gently move steering wheel up or down to see if this allows key to turn.

Yep...give the steering wheel a tug down whilst turning the key

When i was roadsiding for the AA we'd check gear lever position first as the key will only come out of the lock if its in park, next used to try and move the steering wheel slowly side to side whilst trying to turn the key but don't force it, if this failed we'd pump some WD40 into the ignition barrel via the key slot leave it ten mins to lubricate the internals then try again with the wiggling of the steering wheel and turning of the key, if this still would not release the mechanism as a last resort we'd get a deep socket the slightly smaller than the ignition barrel and a nylon faced hammer place the socket against the ignition barrel and give the socket 3 or 4 firm sharp whacks with the nylon hammer to release the internal lock mechanism.

Keep us updated

It turned out to be caused by the fact that my wheels were not straight when i had parked and it was on full lock Brittania rescue man sorted it
I have to park right next to the wall of my flat as close as I can and inside Bollard on right and have to back in so wheels aren't always straight
I will now make sure I straighten wheels before I turn ignition off but thanks for advice

The wheels shouldn't have to be straight for the steering to lock/unlock

have been parking with them not totally straight since I have had the Bongo 1.5 years I think he was saying it was because I had the wheels turned as far as they could go in 1 direction. He managed to move them with key by puling down from outside the van However sadly my hands and wrists feel the age I am and I didn't have the strength to move it

Glad you got it sorted buddy but if you'd told us that the wheels were on full lock at the begining then i'd have advised exactly what the RAC man done, this happens as the lock mech only has one plain of movement when the wheels are on full lock and as the pressure eases out of the system it traps the lock mech putting it under load, i used to carry two small rachet straps and a 1 metre bar to get movement on the wheel when i used to get called out to these situations.
