how do you go about replacing the outside CV joint gaiter ? Is there a circlip in there or do you just need to hit it with a mallet ?

BIG mallet!! you'll hit your hand a few times, they either come off nice or they're a right pain, sometimes you'll dislodge the inner joint so in the near side case be ready to put it back in quickly or you'll lose a portion of your front diff fluid.

Hi
To avoid splitting the inner one, grip the shaft with a large set of stilsons, and wedge against something to prevent it moving, and wallop the outer...

Make sure there are no young children around as you will use lots of swear words to get it to move.

The biggest problem I had was the splines on the driveshaft had seized into the hub -with rust

they must not have have any grease on the production line when they assembled them.

I had to do both sides - oh what fun you can have with a 5lb lump hammer.
